Like many people my beefs with this game include the lack of towns and basically the linear nature of the first half of the game. Combat system is awesome although I wish you could switch people in and out during combat, I mean it makes sense because they are all always portrayed as being there.

Also the Primarch can lick my sausage, it took me forever to beat that asshole.... The cherry on top was when after very careful defense team mates I finally got his shoulder pads off so it was just the head and after getting the head down to half health he cast doom on Lightning, there was no way I was going to be able to catch up like that, I raged when that happened.

Haven't touched a FF game since FFX.

I heard this game was awesome. Sadly, I don't have a PS3 or xbox360 yet. :[

If you liked FFX then you will like FFXIII there are a lot of similarities between the two, but also a lot of differences, in fact in some regards XIII is a whole different beast when compared to other Final Fantasies, I mean it still feels like Final Fantasy, just lacks some of the things that fans came to love, but is still a great game in and of itself.

Ahh, I actually didn't finish FFX. The reason being my brother and sister took over the PS2. :[ I played enough to get a feel for the game, though. Speaking of differences, there were a few elements that I thought were straying from the "traditional" RPG, like they were able to do more than 9999 dmg, lol, and they added in some bad voice acting. It didn't stop me from playing the game (however far I got), but they stuck out in my mind a lot.

I have it as well (BITEY GIVE ME YOUR PSN, I haven't looked in the name threat yet so..) and yeah its pretty awesome, though definitely some gripes about a lot of the game. The tutorial "mode" seems to go on a bit too long and yes, it is quite linear at first. Once you are dropped off in
Spoiler
you get to run around all over the place and do missions, etc. To get there though takes about 20 hours or so, which is relatively annoying. The characters seem to be pretty weak/whiny but the story is pretty good with plenty of twists and turns, as per the FF name. The battle system is quite amazing, I love the ATB and I love paradigm shifts. I dislike not being able to control other characters and decide their abilities, but it actually works a lot better than I thought it would when I first started playing. Unfortunately the AI of characters are still pretty stupid. I run Syn/Comm/Sent to begin with and while my Sent will provoke, etc on a high level/powerful mob I'll still get cleaved by a mob randomly after my Commando will attack 2-3 times from behind. Wish I could move around at least a little bit, give me a movement bar to regulates how much I can move in combat so I can position myself out of being hit by AoE abilities. The difficulty scale jumps at times, you'll breeze through most of it and then encounter mobs or bosses such as Cid or the Primarch and be stumped for a bit. I blew the Primarch up but Cid took me ~10-15 tries because he would combo Lightning into the air and absolutely trash her.

I agree with the "if you liked FFX, you'll probably like FFXIII" statement though, there is A LOT of similarities with the two games but at the same time very different. I like the characters and system in FFX a lot better so far :(. The eidolons were a lot better as well even if Yuna was the only one who could summon them and they didnt turn into some funky vehicles >>.

I have like 27 hours logged so far playing it. I am enjoying it, but it is quite linear.

now, million dollar question (or maybe $400+, to be more accurate)... So, me being big on FFX, FFX-2, and FFXII, i was thinkin about this one, if it's even close in story goodness and graphics. But, really big question, in y'all's opinion, does this one game justify $400+ for me finally getting something more advanced than a PS2, and the game?

The only Final Fantasy's that are connected are the weird numbered sequels (Final Fantasy X -> Final Fantasy X-2 & Final Fantasy XIII -> Final Fantasy XIII-2) so you could just pick up any of them and be fine story wise.
