E3 is here, one of if not the biggest video game expo in the USA! For those of you who do not know what this "gaming expo" is, it essentially is a gathering of all of the many different gaming studios that make the games that we love. This is where new games are revealed, trailers for upcoming games are shown, and where the big upcoming Consoles are revealed. So, to get this E3 party started, I direct you to this:

http://e3.gamespot.com/

This covers many of the new games previewed by Sony as of today and should be a good starting place for many of you who have no idea what E3 is about. If you would like live coverage, check out G4, this event is going on all week and they will be covering it live so get hype for your favorite upcoming games!

Thread moved to GCNews as requested.

I watched some of the Microsoft keynote on Spike, of all channels, and as you said G4 is doing 24/7 coverage. This year's E3 seems to be much more popular than in previous years.

Not to be fanboyish but I can't wait for more wii 2 details.

One thing I can't understand at all is why apple would host the WWDC the same week as E3. I mean it's not like they're going to get ANY media coverage lol

Yea, E3 seems to be off to a great start today. Halo 4 was announced alongside new info on the Sly Cooper title and I was able to catch some gameplay footage of Batman: Arkham City. And based off of what I have seen (and considering the fact that I have AT&T) I may be picking up a Vita at launch, it looks awesome and the announced for it have me hyped. Concerning Project Cafe (or Wii2 as it is being called in some places) I am also excited to see what comes of it.

I'm glad to see Nintendo is working hard to secure 3rd party developers for the Wii U. Bringing some of the big-name titles early in the launch cycle will really help the console. What would be absolutely perfect would be to have a SSB game, a super mario game, and a zelda game as launch titles. If they do that it's GG for store inventories.

On a PC note, this was posted on another board I frequent. It's the BF3 tank demo in 1080p.

I'm sorry but that Wii U controller looks awful. The point of a controller, in my opinion, is to control without having to look at it. If I am playing a game I want to be able to watch the TV, not have to look down at another screen to do other things. Ugh its big and bulky and ugly too... what was Nintendo thinking, exactly? Didn't everyone just want a console with the power of a PS3 but the controls of a Wii?

When I first heard about the Wii (before it came out), I said that's crap and no one will buy it...

After that horribly wrong observation, I remain optimistic of the Wii U. I do think extra controllers are going to set records for being $100+

BTW PS3 move = PS3 Power + Better than Wii Controls - Awesome Wii Games

Keep in mind that the controller is just a wireless receiver with a screen. The controller it self doesn't do any processing, the Wii U streams everything to it very similarly to what OnLive does with online PC gaming. I read somewhere that there was 0 lag between the TV and controller displays.

Even though I'm the only one that cares I'll post it anyway, Mektek is reporting that there will be no Mechwarrior5 announcement at this years E3. Posted Image

any comments on the fact that they used 360/ps3 footage in their announcement video? I mean I dont know about all of you but them just sayind "it will look like this" is not the same as the console actually being able to do that.

It's interesting that you'd say that because I read several complaints that the visuals shown didn't look as detailed as the 360/PS3. If they truely didn't use the Wii U's own hardware to render them that's pretty damned ironic IMO.

"The console's games don't look as good as the 360 or PS3... oh wait, nevermind." lol

It's the same people that swear the PS3 version of some games looks better than the 360 version or vice versa, when in reality even in screenshots the difference is almost indistinguishable and there is no chance they would be able to tell a difference when playing the game at full speed from 5 ft away from their TV. It's called fanboyism.

After admitting it used the footage, Nintendo's response was that the hardware would be >= the hardware used in the footage...

It was irresponsible of them to use the footage in the first place and it was worse that they didn't tell everyone beforehand. From a marketing standpoint, they probably don't have any footage to show..

It sounds like a college student working on a project for months and still having to present early. You still want a good grade so you show what you can. Plagiarism is bad though!

Companies say lots of things that aren't necessarily true. for example, Microsoft said Windows ME was "the most compelling operating system yet for home users" when it was announced

Worth noting is that the PS3 used boxed footage created using an SDK on a "comparable PC" for their E3 2005 demo. XBOX/360 was probably the same, it *IS* a PC after all.

At least the Wii U used footage from actually comparable hardware. It's not the best scenario but worse has certainly been done in the past. Let's not forget that the E3 2005 PS3 was so different from the final one that it's hard to believe it wasn't a fake. I mean 2 HDMI and 3 LAN ports? Get real...

The 360 footage was done from the development box, which for a 360 was a dual core mac pro... kinda funny actually when you think about it. But at least Sony didn't use 360 footage.... it's one thing to just make up footage on a computer, its quite another to steal footage from a COMPETITOR'S console that is ALREADY ON THE MARKET... I mean really thats pretty pathetic.

I cant't wait for bf3. However, i heard that microsoft might combine servers for pc and console players for certain games. Is this true...? If so you have no idea how long I have waited to roll console gamers that play cod and some mlg players that think console>pc. Also I heard they downsized bf3 for consolers. lol

@Masterp, next lan I plan on rigging a 360controller to feel like wasd on a keyboard and change the analog controls to resemble a mouse. =]. Will I be able to use it at the lan?

Not likely.

If so you have no idea how long I have waited to roll console gamers that play cod and some mlg players that think console>pc.

And that's why. Even if they did open it up, MLG and other XBL leagues would ban the use of PCs in their matches. Raven/Derrick has a keyboard/mouse adapter for his xbox and has been temp banned from xbl several times for using it. Everything I've read indicates that the rolling is epic in scale.

Also I heard they downsized bf3 for consolers.

Console versions will have 24 player servers, smaller maps, and reduced graphics. The PC version will have 64 player servers, huge maps, and graphics that even modern PCs will struggle with on the highest settings.

@Masterp, next lan I plan on rigging a 360controller to feel like wasd on a keyboard and change the analog controls to resemble a mouse. =]. Will I be able to use it at the lan?

According to the last couple LANs, yeah you can. Better than that though would be to buy a real adapter. They run in the $100-200 range. PM me for which one Raven/Derrick swears by (and gets banned for using).

K, but if i just stripped the controller body, spread it out on a board, and replaced the buttons with keyboard keys and replace the joystick with a mouse it wouldnt recognize a different controller...
