I'd probably suspect a $500-$600 system.

That's the general consensus right now. Nintendo chose to use a CPU and GPU that isn't bleeding edge so that will help with the price considerably.

One of the big reasons I'm giving Nintendo the benefit of a doubt on the Wii U is because a bunch of people are saying "What ere they thinking." That is the same reaction I heard from most critics when the Wii-mote was introduced and that turned out spectacularly.

No one thought motion interactions was going to work and most wrote the Wii off as little more than a short-term fad. Now both of its competitors have copied the concept. Nintendo will know if the overly expensive screen controller is going to work well before the Wii U is released, all they have to do is see how well it works out for Sony.

Dumb move on Sony's part. Copying a concept is generally acceptable but copying and then rushing to beat the originator of the concept to the market is just dumb. Nintendo will now have over six months to study any failures on Sony's part and learn from their mistakes. They should have waited and learned from Nintendo's mistakes, that's why the Move is so much better than the Wiimote.

The new portable handheld, the PS VIta, doesn't look too different from the Wii U controller. Maybe that's what he's referring to?

This.

I have no idea what the Vita looks like but it'll interact with the PS3 in much the same was the Wii U controller. That's what I'm talking about.

Oh, it's a completely different console though... I don't think that counts.

The DS interacted with the Wii the same way.

And the 3DS will probably interact with the WiiU if they follow up with their previous E3 announcements.

But the Vita is the new portable handheld as Lemm said.
