Oh Malley Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 So.. with the fall a couple months away, I think it'd be a good thing to start planning a nice comforting console LAN shortly after we move in. Plus it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and figure out what games people would want at the first official WCU LAN. Let's get some input on this and start figuring out who will show up, and what we've got as far as equipment goes. Quote
Cacophony Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 It's a good idea. We should try to see if we can snag the Central multipurpose room again. It was roomy and fairly well equipped. I'd say after the first two or three weeks, yeah? Give people time to settle in and figure things out. Quote
Ephraim Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Forgive me if I'm behind, but does this mean that the regular LANs will be split up into two independant LANs, or is this just an extra event? Quote
Cacophony Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 An extra event. We'd need an official meeting to even breathe the idea of two separate events in the air, obviously. Quote
Oh Malley Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 Definitely. Although, I believe at some point down the road, I believe the LAN will have to split into two rooms or even different days just because the consoles are picking up people pretty fast. Plus you've got Gears of War 2 coming out, so that will definitely attract some new blood for the 2008.4 LAN. Quote
MasterP Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 AppLAN uses several different rooms and it causes just as many problems as it solves. I would definately try to get the Grand Room and Illusions as they are close enough to where we might be able to wire their PA systems together but anything further away from the Grand Room will be too far. AppLAN used rooms all over the place and it really hurt the overall cohesion of the LAN as people in one room didn't know what events were starting in another room. Quote
magical penguen Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 we dont liesn to the PA in the grandroom. so why try to do it over 2 rooms? ponder that one rain cloud Quote
MasterP Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 we dont liesn to the PA in the grandroom. so why try to do it over 2 rooms? You'd be surprised how many actually do listen to announcements. When they announce for TF2 players to go to the stage you see a collective body move there. Also, there are quite a few PC gamers that play in the console tournaments but if they don't know they're starting they can't play in them. Quote
Cacophony Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Also, there are quite a few PC gamers that play in the console tournaments but if they don't know they're starting they can't play in them. Last LAN multiple announcements were made for all console tourneys. And people from both console and pc would come up after three or so announcements and complain they didnt know what was going on... Quote
magical penguen Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 thanks for making my point cat-co <3 i think we should morce code with the lights, if that doesn't get everyone attention, nothing will. Quote
Nickname Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 that's why next lan we need to SPEAK CLEARLY AND LOUDLY OVER THE MICROPHONEZ Quote
Ephraim Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 I have a pleasant speaking voice, so could probably be of some assistance. Quote
Bitey Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 that's why next lan we need to SPEAK CLEARLY AND LOUDLY OVER THE MICROPHONEZ What I wasn't loud enough? Quote
Nickname Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 What I wasn't loud enough? I think everyone that uses the mic could be louder, myself included. Quote
Falcon Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 if that's your argument then we need to go over to the closet and turn that mic up... the only thing i think that would get their attention more is to have a LED board at the front of the room, if anyone can make off with an amber alert sign off the interstates, excellent. **DISCLAIMER: I ENCOURAGE NO SUCH BEHAVIOR, THAT COMMENT WAS FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY** Quote
Nickname Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Honestly I think the PC players knew what was going on much better than the console players did. Quote
MasterP Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Honestly I think the PC players knew what was going on much better than the console players did. Ditto. I think any delays between announcements and action was more a problem of steam games taking for f.ing ever to do anything than people not paying attention. Quote
Ephraim Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Is it just me, or did several posts just disappear? Quote
Cacophony Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 I still dont believe its a problem of speaking loud and clear. I practically shouted using the microphone. It's just that people either don't pay attention or don't listen at all. Turning up the mic might be a nice solution to any problems though. Quote
MasterP Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Is it just me, or did several posts just disappear? Most of yesterdays posts are gone. Liam? Quote
Oh Malley Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 Again, I think it'd be better that if we did outgrow the Grandroom, that we simply have the console tournaments on an entirely different date. The two groups have entirely different needs. Also, you gotta realize, at the console section, there are about a dozen TVs blasting gunfire non-stop. Whereas the PC section is mandated to have headsets for all their players. Of course the console section isn't going to hear squat. Quote
Phonetically Phamous (dice Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Agreed. you gotta just take the good with the bad. The club needs to desides do we wont PC and Consul in the same room same day... take the noise, and deal with the cramped space. (we can do a different layout and make more room is space is the main issue) and we it done cheaper. Members will not half to pay for 2 different events. to cover the extra charge of adding another room. Do we wont to have the PC and Consul on the same day and different rooms. Given that its going to cost more for another room, and deal with the fact their is no way ppl in both rooms are going to know whats going on in each room. (however, this currently happens somewhat,, its just going to get worse) however, more space for both the PC and consul people. Do we wont to have them on 2 different days? cost should be the same as same day 2 rooms, people will be able to play the pc games they wish or the consul games they wish. however, the stress and organization for the executives is going to make this one day nightmare into two days. Quote
Phonetically Phamous (dice Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 To make more space for consul. And this also adds more wall space for projectors... Its not hard at all to bump where the current power box sits for the PC area back more twards the center of the room. The cable will easly extend another 20feet. We can make the UC fold up that collapsible stage, should not be any fees added. By doing both of the above the Consul area just easly doubled. with no affect on the PC area. Win/win thank me later... now sound is the only issue. MLG dont they use headsets? Ahh. Fixed. PC we use them. why cant consul? Quote
Oh Malley Posted June 28, 2008 Author Report Posted June 28, 2008 At MLG they have their own TVs that they bring in which conveniently have headphone jacks. Out of all the TVs I've seen us bring, not a single one had a headphone jack. And I don't see any of us spending $100 for Turtle Beach's headset and transmitter to make us use headsets/headphones. If we can get enough staff and commitment from our console group, then we should be able to handle our LAN just fine. Yeah, have the president or secretary or whoever around to help supervise and make sure stuff gets done, but I think it's less hassle on the executives. Most of the stress on the console side lies on the President and Vice President. At this past LAN, Shae and Cacophany definitely learned how much I had to deal with just organizing and running the tournaments when I was the council leader. So, now we have more people with experience and maybe get a few more to commit to certain tasks and duties, the console section should be able to run its own event no problem. Maybe need an executive or two to help with the legistics, handle money and attendance, and of course make sure pictures take place. By the way, thank you Dice for the additional input and analyzing each scenario as well as bringing up some good questions. Quote
Bitey Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 So would we want to do this one day after the other or spread it out? Because the likely hood of getting the grand room twice in a row is slim to none, of course we can always try but this also causes timing issues for executives and people who I know enjoy the after party very very much. So my main question are you looking for one after the other or whenever we can get it? Quote
