After being on the idle servers for a bit, its not that bad, there are actually SOME active people on there using for a small (very small) achievement server, but I would like to find out what has gone wrong with the tf2 pub servers and get all 3 of them up an running on a CP, PL, and CTF rotation. I've been studying how to add new TF2 servers and trying to get them to work but I never got guidance on the intricacies of the server. Can anyone help me? Yes, I have tried this many times before, but deleted the added entries soon after trying to get them to work for fear of affecting the other servers.
  2. Thanks, and honestly I'm sick of the drama in the club. I know I partook of it once and I feel really bad about it. I rather just be a neutral entity and act more as a moderator between alumni and current members and focus more on being a good PC VP. I honestly would like for you to come to the LAN and have fun with us even if others may not enjoy your presence there.

  5. I think the last times those servers were up it caused problems with the other games even though I set them up under someone's guidance. If you can get them working properly that would be great. As for halo, I'm asking around for someone who will act as the leader for that game in my stead, not just pick out the rules. So while I would be fine with using your suggested rule set or listening to tips you have, I would like to find someone on campus who is an experienced halo player and see what they have to say. I will definitely direct them to you for consultation once I find someone. TF2 and LoL are going to have pre-made teams to AVOID problems at the LAN, as there have been in LANs past. I am not against making teams at the LAN for people who walk in, but if they don't have a committed team together when I say it is time to start the tournament, they are out of luck, that's all. As for the other thread, that was moved here after I had posted earlier today. This section was empty just a couple of hours ago.

  7. -League of Legends Teams of 5 -PRE-MADE BEFORE THE LAN, IF YOU ARE TRYING TO PUT A TEAM TOGETHER AT THE LAN AND THE TOURNAMENT STARTS THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE -I will start a thread here in the LAN section for people to list LoL teams for this LAN. Summoner's Rift -It's the only 5's map All runes allowed -Enough time has passed that just about everyone has heard about LoL so all runes will be allowed All masteries allowed -Even easier to get than runes since you only have to level Champion Bans -I will need input on this from the community. -If we can not decide on a good number of bans (0,1,2) then we will go with 1. -Team Fortress 2 Teams of 6 -This is the normal size of teams in official tournament play -Teams should also be pre-made before the LAN Best of 5 -Teams will fight until one team has 3 wins Map Type to be determined -Teams will initially agree upon a map type to play for their fights and a neutral party will decided on the specific map to be played. -Map and Map Type can be changed from round to round by the looser's choice. -Multiple rounds can be fought on the same map if the teams agree to do so. Class selection -ONLY ONE PLAYER CAN HOLD 1 OF THE 9 CLASSES AT A TIME. -Classes can be changed mid game if players wish to do so. -1st offense: Warning -2nd offense: Loss -Offenses reset from round to round -Starcraft 2 I personally dislike competitive Starcraft, there is too much micro-management for it to be fun for me.   10. I liked the layout, mostly. All the space in the middle was nice, but seemed like a waste. Would like a little more space for PC, and the consoles seemed somewhat cramped right up against the wall, not much room for specs on that side. But with the turnout for PC the space was adequate. Small complaint: You have to walk around the PC table to get to the stage. Unless you are already on the stage side, but then you have to run around it for... Medium complaint: Food. PC is farthest from food, besides JJ. But plenty of room to run. Largest complaint: AIR CONDITIONING! AHHHHHHHHHHHH! SO COLD!
  11. This was a great lan, despite slightly lower numbers than previous lans. AND I WON L4D2 AND TF2 WOOT! PC side when surprisingly smooth when people weren't rushing of to other tournaments in the middle of cap'ing a point.

  14. The fliers for this year are bland, boring, and the L isn't even the same size as the A and the N It has no pictures on it Its not in color I hate it

This will be the order of PC tournaments: SC2 first because it could take forever GG next because it probably wont L4D2/TF2 will be last in either order, but L4D2 can take a long time so if we think we will run out of time like that other LAN then do L4D2 first. Times will be as usual, but if one ends early, the next will be started right away, no waiting until it's scheduled time.
  16. Ambiguity = Bad Yes, yes it does, and I apologize for that. SC2 will be singles. Starting map will be one of the 1v1, or a 2v2 map if wanted. And I love lost temple. I thought we would try the standard setup instead of our usual 1 person to 1 class like before. Serious teams often pick 2 Soldiers, 1 Demo, 1 Medic, and 2 Utility classes, often scouts. More than 1 TF2 tournament? Hmmmmmmmm..................

  18. Since Alex knows more about Guilty Gear than I do, he is now the GG leader; Yes Alex agreed to it. I've been looking around for other leaders, so If you want to be one just say so and I'll consider it. Rules, 2st draft: TF2: Depending on the number of people present we will have them split into 2 or 4 teams, or *shudder* 3. The teams will consist of 5-6 members. Classes will limited to 2 max of any class except for Demo, Heavy and Medic which are limited to 1. Teams that violate the classing rule be warned the first time and disqualified the second. If the over classing incident upsets the Leader or other team too much, then the match will be restarted. Teams will meet on an appropriate CapturePoint, CaptureTheFlag, or KingOfTheHill map and will fight to the best of 3 or 5. If both teams agree on a different map, then they may fight on that map instead with the Leader's permission. L4D2: Teams will consist of 4 members, teams of 3 are not allowed, no exceptions, form your teams now! Teams will fight to the best of 5 on a scavenge map. If both teams agree on playing a campaign, then they may fight on that campaign with the Leader's permission and time permitting. The hogging of Peels is legal, but frowned upon. SC2: I'm thinking it should be best of 3, but sometimes these things can take a long time. As such, players must be informed that they my not be able to play in the SC2 tournament AND others. All tactics are permitted. GHOSTING IS NOT A TACTIC, IT IS CHEATING! (See below) Final will be best of 5 as suggested if everyone agrees on it. I guess I all really depends on how many people want to play. GG: IF YOU HAVE A 360 OR OTHER GAMEPAD FOR THE PC AND YOU LIKE USING IT, BRING IT. Alex will flesh out the rules for this later. ANY FORM OF CHEATING IN ANY TOURNAMENT WILL BE MET WITH AN IMMEDIATE BAN FROM THE CURRENT LAN AND POSSIBLY THE NEXT. ANYONE HELPING A CHEATER WILL MEET THE SAME FATE.   20. Ok, I have the first group of custom maps to be added to the server, along with a more polished Orange. Also, I have included all of the .nav files possible for the custom maps and the official (default) rotation maps if bots are to be used. I have heard that Egypt should not be in the rotation, but the .nav file is still there if needed. I'll be working with Mitch to get them up.
  21. I have a solution for populating our servers without the use of fudge, and we can use a function already built into the game: bots. Using tf_bot_quota and tf_bot_quota_type we can have a few bots running around and they will leave as people come in, thus giving peple reason to play on our servers even if there are no other human players. Also, when there are no human players, the bots become inactive and leave thus stopping unneeded server activity. having the quota be 12, 6 on each team, seems like a good idea since that is the usual minimum for a good game anyways. Edit: Forgot, nav files need to be generated for each map, which doesn't take long, and only needs to be done once. sv_cheats 1, nav_generate, and wait. The server restarts and bots can be added and they will function normally, almost player-like at times. sv_cheats can be reset to 0 once the nav file is generated and does not need to be 1 for bots to be active. Another Edit: Wasn't there something similar for CS?

Well, we can leave up the idle server i guess, and ill look into good custom maps for a custom rotation, get the best of the official, and a single-kind rotation, perhaps some prophunt as well as a casual all-talk server L4D and 2 can stay how they are, but I was playing on the earlier and the info that is usually displayed when you join a source server is 404'd. CSS is Mitch's call, and whoever he sees fit to run it, and 1.6. I'll do a little more digging on what is exactly needed for a good Minecraft server and it's resource needs. Finally, I saw we have a KF server, I need to start playing that again, munnay.
  23. I suggest we change the rotations immediately, and I'll get my old clan on and see how they like it. I've already voiced my opinions on what they should be, but what do you guys want to see exactly? And yes, Java can burn in hell, C or C++ would be so much better, even C#.

The minecraft client actually does most of the processing, the server just keeps track of what is where and the 10-20 block changes/player movements each second, its not that hard to run at all. I ran a server on my craptop WHILE it was folding, and it ran just fine, no problems at all. And the points per day didn't change at all if the server was running or not. As such, a long as we have the space for the map, which is a few megs (1-10) then it should be fine.
  25. Hmm... Minecraft servers actualy only handle updates to individual blocks and if sections of the map are coming into view, and only a few blocks are changing at any given time, and sections are sent all at once, so after that it only needs to know they are there. The actual data for the server (this is the world and what's in it) are are a fair size, but not unreasonable for a map data file. The clients do most of the processing, so unless your computer has problems with minecraft then it will be fine, and you wouldn't be playing anyways if you did. The server is also easy to maintain and back up if need be (just a single data file). I say anyone who has a problem with it should download the server and try it out themselves first and have people willing to help test it by connecting to it.
