Alright, in this thread, I'll post some rules I am considering for my tournaments and you (yes you) can give me feedback. Keep in mind, none of these rules are finalized. As a matter of fact, I am very much on the fence about some of them, so your criticism is welcome. If you disagree with one of my rules, just explain why you dislike it and provide a potential solution. I will take it into consideration.

BRAWL

-2V2, 3 Stock Match, 6 Minutes

-Best two out of three, three out of five for the finals

-Ties will be decided by total number of remaining stock for each team. If that is the same, the winner will be decided by adding together all KOs responsible by each team.

-First stage will be random. If all players request it, first characters will be double blind. After round one, the losing team may choose the stage > one winner chooses character > one loser chooses character > other winner chooses character > other loser chooses character.

-You cannot choose a stage which you have already won on, with two exceptions: 1. If you choose Random Stage, and the selected stage happens to be a stage where you previously won, or 2. If the opposing team agrees to play on that stage again.

-Some stages may be selectable by the losing team only if both members of the winning team agree to it. Other stages may be selectable by the losing team without the winning team's consent. A list of stages in each category will be provided at the LAN.

Stages set to Random:

Battlefield, Final Destination, Yoshi's Island (Brawl), Lylat Cruise, Smashville, Corneria, Pokemon Stadium I

Stages selectable by the losing team without the consent of the winning team:

All Random Stages, Delphino Plaza, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Circuit, Pirate Ship, Bridge of Eldin, Halberd, Pokemon Stadium 2, Summit, Castle Siege, Distant Planet, Shadow Moses Island, Green Hill Zone, PictoChat, Hanenbow, Temple, Jungle Japes, Onette, Green Greens, Brinstar

Stages selectable by losing team with the consent of the winning team:

Mushroomy Kingdom, 75m, Rumble Falls, Norfair, Frigate Orpheon, Spear Pillar, Port Town Aero Dive, Flatzone 2, WarioWare, Mario Bros, New Pork City, Yoshi's Island (Melee), Rainbow Cruise, Big Blue

Items (set to very low frequency):

Banana Peel, Food, Green Shell, Hothead, Lip's Stick, Mr. Saturn, Pitfall, Smoke Ball, Spring, Star Rod, Team Healer, Unira (spikey ball thing)

More About Items:

-If all members of both teams agree, items will be switched off.

-If all members of both teams agree, Smash Balls will be switched on.

I'll post Double Dash rules when I figure out how that tournament is supposed to work.

The Brawl rules look ok. As far as double dash goes I think we should test it before we make it official. We can either do it at one of the mini-lans at central or you can call me and we can set something up.

Anyone up for banning Meta Knight?

Banning characters is a slippery slope to go down. Once you ban meta knight you have to ban ROB and Jigglypuff. From there it gets easier and easier to ban characters that seem "unbalanced" or "overpowered".

I personally hate items while dueling, they introduce the chance of a "lucky win" and healing items can turn a close game into a landslide. Everyone else seems to not mind so meh.

I am aware that Metaknight is one of those characters that are boarderlined-banned in most tournaments, but there's a possibility of losing players if we were to make a rule against the use of certain characters.

I don't use him, but I know he's popular among some players.

Just know that once the "best" character is banned, there is a new "best" character to take his/her spot, and then the ban hammer will continue to pound it's way down the list.

It's better to just leave it just the way it is.

~ MadNik, thinking Princess Peach is better than Metaknight anyday.

One suggestion for SSBB: Why not try Super Sudden Death with no teams? I never did like teams in Smash Brothers anyway, usually when I go up against the computer players, it's every character for him or herself.

And if you ban Pit, I'm not going to be participating. He's my favorite character next to Marth.

Also, what are we going to do for controllers? Should use all the controllers or just a certain type or what?

Typically gamecube controllers are used but there's usually a few Wiimote or classic controllers floating around.

The reason that we dont ban Metaknight is because, well no one really uses him. And honestly, the few people that do dont play him seriously so their is no harm.

The way I'd put it is that nobody around here plays him like a spamming jerk. It's possible to play Metakinght with the intent to win, without being a jerk about it.

There is no way I'm banning any characters. Now, if I see anyone spamming really cheap moves over and over, I may disqualify. Metaknight is not a cheap character in and of himself. It's just that some people exploit a lame move or two. As I've always said "It's only cheap if you spam it."

I AM HAPPY TO LEARN OF THIS!

Here's an update: I've been playing the game for a few days now, and I'm getting some good ideas for the tournie. I think the hardest part of preparing for this tournament is unucking everything important. By the time I get it done, I'm going to be a Mario Kart expert.

I have a copy with everything unlocked.

Keep in mind you can copy game profiles to other Wiis. All you need is one profile with everything unlocked and you can copy it over to the others.

I know. My plan is to get one memory card with everything unlocked, then copy the file onto other memory cards. If I don't get everything I need soon, I'll look for a volunteer with the right file on a memory card. *looks towards Liquid*

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU

I just realised I left the memory card at my house.

However: one of my friends from my hometown will be coming here tomorrow. I'll ask him to try to find my memory cards before he leaves.

If Im not mistaken, I still have my memory card with everything unlocked for Double Dash. Ill try to check later today but Im sure I have everything unlocked.

First game of a match to be played on Smashville. Players can decide to play on any map, if both players agree.

Excessive stalling or abusing terrain to not engage the enemy is prohibited, and can be enforced by a tournament director only. This will result in a loss of the match.

Losing player can pick what method to be used after match:

Method A

1) First stage is Smashville

2) Winner keeps character

3) Loser can either pick stage or character

4) If loser picks stage then character is kept

5) If loser picks character then stage is kept

Method B

1) First stage is Smashville

2) Loser picks stage

3) Winner picks character

4) Loser picks character

3 Stock, 5 Min timer, 2/3 Games

Items on medium spawn.

Sudden Death will not decide the outcome of the game.

Allowed Items: Banana Peel, Unira, Spring, Mr. Saturn, Green Shell, Smoke Ball, Freezie, Super Scope, Sandbag, Food, Screw Attack, Warp Star, Metal Box, Bunny Hood, Beam Sword, Baseball Bat, Lip's Stick, Star Rod, Hothead, Smash Ball, Ray Gun, Pitfall, Cracker Launcher, Motion-Sensor Bomb, Hammer, Golden Hammer, Bumper, Franklin Badge.

Banned Stages: New Pork City, Hyrule Temple, Warioware, Spear Pillar, Flat Zone 2, Original Mario Brothers, Mushroomy Kingdom, 75m.

This was used for the EVO tournaments, and I feel its a pretty good set of rules.

The only change I'd make is -Smoke Bomb

Opinions, plz?
