melatonin Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Today at the mini-LAN, we played with the item set you posted. I don't think anyone liked it. Maybe we should just go no items? Quote
Ephraim Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 You could have posted this in the Brainstorming Thread. My item set isn't terribly different from last semester's succesful Brawl tournaments, so I'd like a little more detail. I mean absolutely no offence when I say this, but I know most of the people who frequent the Saturday LANs, and they hate items in general, so I'm a little skeptical on this one. Between now and the LAN, I'll probably test out the rules with someone. Edit: I just compared my item list to Eyce's list from the previous LAN. Here are the differences: I removed the Super Scope and Fire Flower. I added Hot Head, Star Rod, and Unira. Also, I added the options of removing all items and allowing Smash Balls (with the consent of both teams). Quote
BJWanlund Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 That item set wasn't exactly balanced. No Beam Sword, no baseball bat, not even an item that yields more items. Either we have all items, some items showing up more than others, or none at all. BJ Quote

I cringe every time one of those *edited* sticky smoke bombs fall. Quote
BJWanlund Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 If the items are good as well as a good balance (i.e. the items are evenly distributed among the combatants), they are the great equalizer. A Brawl player (and even Melee to a point) who uses the good items well can be a deadly threat. I think the items are evenly balanced already by default in the game (i.e. the bad items AND the good items are both in the game evenly). And yes, the Smash Ball is a pain, but I actually think that (if we turn team damage off) we could do very well with every single item in the game. BJ Quote
Lemm Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 I vote no items.. but I doubt I'll be able to play so I guess my opinion here would be understandably discounted Quote
Ephraim Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 I believe last semester's tournaments proved beyond a a shadow of a doubt that a Brawl tournie with items can work. The only reason I would remove all items woul be if the President or Console Vice President demanded that I remove them. However, I am willing to consider changing individual items if I am given legitimate reasons. Quote

Ephraim Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 After talking to a few people, I've decided to trash the list and start from scratch. I'll post a revised list in the Brainstorming thread later. I'd also like to remind everyone that the LAN is in a month and a half, so none of these rules are even close to being made official. Quote
