MasterP Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Nintendo started pushing out System Menu 4.2 today and it pretty much breaks, overwrites, or deletes everything homebrew releated on your Wii. Long story short: Bannerbomb: security holes fixed Bootmii: firmware location overwritten Homebrew Channel: removed by the system menu cIOS: firmware locations overwritten Preloader: removed by the system menu DVDx: removed by the system menu You can read up more here: http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/System_Menu_4.2 Quote
Phonetically Phamous (dice Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 just gotta wait for homebrew 2 i guess Quote
Thor Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Thanks for the heads up. Its much appreciated. Quote
Lemm Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Yeah that sucks.... every other update recently has been very accommodating. Hopefully it won't be required to play newer games. Mebbe just scrub the update out of them. Quote
MasterP Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 Long story short: Bannerbomb: security holes fixed Bootmii: firmware location overwritten Homebrew Channel: removed by the system menu cIOS: firmware locations overwritten Preloader: removed by the system menu DVDx: removed by the system menu Here's an update: Bannerbomb: Use Bannerbomb v2, Smash Stack, or Indiana Pwns Bootmii: Use HackMii installer v0.5 to (re)install. Homebrew Channel: Use HackMii installer v0.5 to (re)install. HBC 1.0.5 will not be removed by the 4.2 update. cIOS: Just reinstall. Preloader: Wait for an update (if Crediar chooses to update it). DVDx: Use HackMii installer v0.5 to (re)install. DVDX 2.0 will not be removed by the 4.2 update. The really sad part about this is that Nintendo really got lazy while coding this. Since so much is done in this update, many are finding that their Wii freezes part of the way through the update. Unfortunately for some, just like with the XBOX360 update last month, if the freeze or error occurs while it's writing to a critical part of the firmware it will brick your console. The vast majority of Wiis bricked by this update had never even had homebrew run on them. Even the new bootcode is so buggy that the updated homebrew bootloader isn't even based on Nintendo's code anymore. They wrote their own. With this update completely negated by the homebrew community in less than 36 hours I imagine Nintendo will either get extremely crafty with their next update or simply quit trying. Quote
MasterP Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 Also, I recommend everyone using the homebrew channel go install the latest versions of everything using the new Hackmii installer. Homebrew Channel 1.0.5 is MUCH faster than previous versions and can mount/unmount SD/SDHC/USB/Gecko drives on the fly without restarting. It also seems to pull an IP address faster than it used to but that could just be my imagination. Quote

MasterP Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 You don't have to download it to play games but you have to have the new version before you can use the shop channel. Also, to install the updated homebrew stuff you don't have to upgrade to the new system menu. Quote
