Played two games yesterday (one vs my boyfriend and then a pub). Here's my first impression.

 

Likes:

  • Like JV18 said, it runs better on my laptop than LoL
  • Different options for game creation; to name a couple, there's an options to open up slots for spectators and you can choose to make it a practice game right then and there (you have to exit back out and go back to game creation in LoL)
  • Bigger map(s? I haven't checked to see if there were any more after the first couple games on the same map)
  • More aesthetically pleasing, even when gfx settings are on low, but LoL wasn't bad. Additionally, I think in LoL, when you're at top and bot, something gets distorted there (might go into this more if someone cares and if I can think about how to describe it)

Dislikes (but are tolerable):

  • The shop is better in LoL, imo. You can click on an item and it will show you what other items you can make with it, and then clicking on those will show you the recipes. Also, the hotkeys for buying? wtfbbq. I will get used to it, but it was a little daunting when I first opened up the shop
  • Also, regarding the shop, in HoN, you don't see the name and cost of the recipe until you click (and/or maybe hover; I can't recall atm) on the item
  • Maybe it was just me misclicking, but I had to be misclicking a lot of *edited*ing times. I had a little bit of trouble making my hero use his potions while running
  • When using items in the inventory, why do I have to use alt+a, alt+q, etc.? Why didn't they let you use the numbers instead, like in war3? Meh. (LoL implements this)
  • In LoL, there are hotkeys for upgrading your abilities, alt+q, alt+w, alt+e, alt+r. I use those a lot so I don't have to move my cursor away from what I'm doing. I know you can customize your hotkeys, but I didn't see an option for binding keys for upgrading skills.
  • Like LoL, I can't alt+tab out of the client or it freezes. I don't place the blame on either of the clients; I blame it on my craptop. But I still hate it. xP

As you can see, I use the hotkeys a lot, so this was slightly annoying to me, lol. But I'll get used to them.

 

That's what I got after two games. I'll update if I think of anything else.

HoN is not a new game. HoN is a stand-alone dota client. LoL is attempt at taking what worked from dota, and improving on that. LoL is a lot more fun than HoN and has a lot more potential for competitive play IMO. I also have beta keys for HoN available. If anyone wants one email me.

I agree with you in the everything and i seem to misclick a little myself on Hon and LOL shop is better but its ok. I love both games overall but I do play HON a lil more because it runs better like I said and more graphic beautiful

Really? I read somewhere that they are done giving keys away for closed beta.

I didn't read that, but I figured that was the case. I got a key for my bf from my friend who signed up for it sometime last year. He said he got 3 invites every now and then in his inbox. On the site, they advertise now that you have to pre-purchase the game to get friend invites.

Haha, how do you not notice? Whenever you sign in (and I think it's all over the place on the site via popups), there are ads about pre-purchasing the game. xP

 

They list the benefits of purchasing, like keeping your beta screen name, more friend invites, the ability to taunt in-game (I really don't care about this, though)... I think there are a couple more.

Ah, lol. I've only played two games so far. I keep going back to LoL. @_@ But I'll hop on later if you wanna game -- just be prepared for some nubiness. I didn't really play dota and since the heroes/skills/items are almost all the same, I'm a complete nub, haha.
