Hey guys I admit it I am a larper. if some of you have a problem with it then start a thread in the random section and flame away, but for those of you that like REALLY REALLY immersive video games then whats better than actually feeling the sword in your hand or having infinite conversation options. I attend events at a LARP called Avalon. if anyone else does something similar you can post it in here and if someone starts being derogatory or starts to be stupid about it I wont hesitate to delete your post.

there be larpers who play every afternoon on the drill field.... im sorry but running around with a broom up your *edited* carrying a basketball painted brown throwing them all over the place when im trying to get to class is frustrating.

 

What do you LARP as? Or is there like specific genres and weekends or something?

I LARPed until i got *edited*ed and broke this guys nose with my broadsword. He was talking *edited* on my plastic 10 dollar viking horns. I was like look dude, i'm not going to spend that much money for fairy tailing. That, and the beer, i mean mystical mead, was what provoked it.

 

come to think of it, i think that was the Renaissance festival lol

Avalon is a medieval/Fantasy LARP created in 1997. we get everything from soldiers to theater buffs that come and play our game. I personally play as some thing called a Shai Fighter (think Ninja). its stat based instead of contact based so it plays more like a video game in your head and in real life simultaneously.

there are about 10 of us at western that go on a regular basis, but some events will have over 100 players.

Is there ever disputes as to who killed who? How do you determine who dies when?

 

chicks, booze, and swords...it looks like alot of fun.

well no booze. but the game plays kinda like a video game. based on your gear, abilities, fighting syle, and other things you can do X amount of damage and you have Y amount of life and armor( making up your hit points) if your hit your opponent enough times before your Y is 0 then you live and they dont... its a little more in depth than that but thats the basics. as long as i am behind my target i can hit them for 19 points with the first hid and completely ignore armor. i can take alot of people down in one hit.

what prevents someone being god with 1000000hp and can do 50pts damage per hit

It has levels like most RPGs do if I am not mistaken, so you start low and have to level up through experience points and stuff. A lot of times some people play NPCs or monsters that you can fight for experience and others that play NPC are usually involved in the story, honestly I would rather play an NPC

first of all bitey is spot on with everything he said. for everyone else Avalon is ran through venture crew 1433 so it is Boy Scouts of America sponsored kinda. all intoxication is Role played and all alcoholic beverages are something else. no drugs, no alcohol, no porn, and no "cohabitation." when Destiny(my girlfriend) goes with me in the fall we will probably be in the same cabin but in separate beds. this is because the minimum age is 14 and we get some that young. this is also not just a couple friends getting together. the big convention events will have upwards of 120 people I believe.

oh and about the guy smoking; he probably just rolled his own cigarettes. many people do that because they look more "in Character" than commercial brands.
