What are your current political views?

Recommended Posts

my current political views:

Obamacare: It's better than no reform at all. If it is repealed, it shouldn't be forgotten. Let's get serious and find something everyone likes.

Immigration: It starts at the border, not down the street. No need for discrimination based on color, birthplace, or accent.

Gov. Spending: Spend on infrastructure and schools, not projects with little return----->

-->High Speed Trains: Let's connect the largest cities, not make existing trains "30 mins" faster. Texas Triangle and New Orleans would be a good alternative to connecting Ohio.

Socialism: It's not Obama's agenda and "it" started with Bush.

The President: Civil duty calls for respect of the president. Let's not get carried away with giving him a green light for everything and a red light just because hes a Dem. Although I can't stand Bush, he was great in his first year as president in the sense that he did exactly what he should have done right after 9/11. We will never have an all-mighty president. That said I still love my "messiah" Obama. :P

Ground Zero Islamic Center: Religious Tolerance. It's not a mosque, it will include an interfaith section, and a strip bar on ground zero is way more insulting to the "hollow ground". Besides, the pentagon actually does have a mosque and no one is complaining.

Nasa: Maintain Full Funding. Space is America's Final Frontier. We need to hurry up and gtfo of this solar system!!

Oil: Stop the Moratorium, clean the Gulf, and enforce stricter laws. We need energy alternatives, but we have to deal with what energy sources we have now. Too many jobs at risk.

Abortion: May each woman deal with God on her own. Rape and Health are enough reasons for an individual to decide, not governmen.

Same-sex marriage: Civil Unions. May each couple deal with God on their own and may each state vote to allow it The constitution was made to give ppl rights and to limit government. We should never limit the rights of people.

Palin, Limbaugh, Beck: Since when did we let ourselves go for stupid.

I have alot more to say, but yeah that's it so far

as the world and times change, so may the perspective one has of it.

my current political views:

Obamacare: I can't afford healthcare and they don't cover me so *edited* it.

Immigration: bring peeps home, make a human chain across the border. problem solved.

Gov. Spending: Meh... Reaganomics. SPEND EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME

-->High Speed Trains: Um no real opinion cept flying sucks

Socialism: *edited*ING NAZI COMMIE *edited*S

The President: Bush was better. Maybe not smarter, or more handsome, or more efficient, but def not worse. GO GO RELATIONS WITH INDIA!

Ground Zero Islamic Center: Lol that this is even an issue.

Nasa:

Maintain Full Funding. Space is America's Final Frontier. We need to hurry up and gtfo of this solar system!!
qft

Oil: Canola or Olive?

Abortion: I have no right to force my idea on anyone else, but if asked to vote one way or another i will say no.

Same-sex marriage: Marriage should only exist in a church. Get married in the church and have unions in the eyes of the state. Sep. of Church and State whaaaaa?

Palin, Limbaugh, Beck: Let them do their own thing. They have the same rights to say what they want just like the rest of us.

Some of this is sarcasm, some of this is lies, and some of this is truth. You decide.

As I sit here drinking an excessive amount of booze, watching a fishing pole and hoping some mysterious beast of a marine creature strike my bait, I can't help but wonder how we should treat extra terrestrials that we might encounter in some unkown future. My political view on aliens, call it racist, are "if it looks like a roach and has a taste for humanoid flesh, exterminate by any means neccessary. At the same time I'm troubled by the thought of a galactic red dawn from blossoming to reality. What if they win I wonder, or what if we find out they're cursed humans kidnapped and bread into heathens. What if they're smokinh hot aliens; succubi if you will? I ponder these things, blame it on the copious amounts of whiskey I say.

Aliens don't exist.

You watch too much TV.

There a number of systems in our area of the galaxy that have planets with favorable orbits to support life. If I'm not mistaken they just found that Alpha Centauri contains highly favorable orbits very similar to Sol and it's only 40-50 years away on conventional drives. Ominous still, NASA's most recent deep space scanning program published a massive list of 156,000 planets the size of Neptune and smaller but they witheld information on 400 planets to conduct "additional research". Apparently red dwarfs are now off the list of uninhabitable systems, something that's been a long time coming IMO.

What sucks about all this space stuff is that NASA's director now says that "the US is no longer capable of reaching beyond low earth orbit without help from other nations." Obama cancelled the moonbase, planned to be finished in 2024 and the Mars landing in 2037. He's trying to cancel the Constellation Program but preventing him from doing so is about the only thing both parties in Congress can agree on right now. As it sits now, NASA is barred from producing a heavy-lift vehicle until 2015, regardless of whether or not they have the design, funding, and capability to do so (which they do).

Inb4 nurayz says "but Obama wants to privatize space, you're conservative so you have to agree"

As to your drunken thoughts of Red Dawn, no species has the capability to take and occupy an entire planet wholesale. Before even attempting to occupy the planet they would conduct an orbital bombardment, killing at least 60% of the population, ideally 80-90%. The remnants would be too scattered to conduct a proper defense or organize an effective resistance and would gradually be hunted down and killed off.

A species could be forced into submission without wholesale invasion only if they had shifted their military to a space-based force that you wiped out. We won't be there for at least 200 years, baring drastic changes to current policy or outside interference. Our means of conducting scientific research is just too backwards to accomplish anything useful any quicker than that :(

I really think that the government messed up by defining a marriage. That is a religious term. I think if they defined a mate, committed relationship or some other term other than marriage the whole same-sex marriage problem would go away and a lot less people would complain.

They'd still find some reason to complain, people like that always do. For example, in states where same-sex marriages are allowed, many churches have been threatened to have their tax-exempt status revoked if they didn't perform the ceremonies. This is essentially suing someone because they don't believe the way you do and sadly they often win.

If the state mandates that something is no longer a religious-oriented ceremony then they shouldn't then be allowed to demand that it be performed in a church under penalty of massive fines.

You're exactly right. The state has no authority to punish a church with taxes for its beliefs. I haven't heard of that before, but I'm surprised those states haven't been sued over it.

How? It's political suicide. Even if you win, you'd lose in the public's eyes because you'd be labelled bigots and intolerant.

I've got to give props to California, they've said from the start that churches wouldn't lose any of the tax benefits for refusing to perform same-sex marriages. It's smart to head the issue off early but most don't believe it because New Jersey said the same thing and now revokes tax-exempt status for refusing to perform the ceremonies.

It's easier to prevent legislation than it is to reverse it which is why religious groups in California are fighting so hard. The first couple same-sex states really screwed it for the rest by pushing their beliefs and ways on others and suing for intolerance and discrimination when they met any form of honest and legitimate resistance. Had they just gone for unions with the same benefits and left it at that they'd have won nationwide recognition years ago but they just had to call it marriage and they just had to poke the religious-sector with a stick after winning and because of that they'll probably never win nationally. You can't royally *edited* off the largest groups of tax-exempt organizations in the country and honestly expect to still win <_>
