Prediction: The club will begin hosting tournaments for the game as soon as it is released and continue to do so until three years after it stops being popular.

It's probably the proof of concept for a new engine upgrade. Aside from raw graphics, I'm curious as to what improvements have been made under the hood.

According to this article PS3 Gamers will be able to play with Keyboard / Mouse or PS Move.

I'm psyched. I thought they might wait until next gen came out to release it on consoles.. it's about time they stop calling ps3 / xbox next gen consoles. Also the article states the game won't be coming to XBOX.

Back to topic: It's been confirmed that XBOX360 will be stuck using controllers but PS3 will have Move, keyboard/mouse, and controller support and PC/Mac will have cross-platform matchmaking with PS3 users. I'm actually looking forward to that, opens the door for a highly competitive PC vs console exhibition match at LANs :)

The article you linked said it would be coming to XBOX but that Steamworks wouldn't be implemented on XBL.

Personally, I don't think it's even possible to implement Steamworks on XBL. PSN was pretty basic in terms of coding which made it trivial to simply overlay Steamworks on top of it as an addon. XBL has a pretty complex backend framework and I don't imagine MS would be too keen on releasing all the code for that to Steam for them to make the modifications. I don't think it's fair to bash MS over it, XBL is twice as old as PSN and those extra years do a number on the flexibility of the system. If PSN was 10 years old I imagine it'd be in the same boat. Then again, if PSN was released in tandem with XBL it would probably have forced XBL to be a free service <_>

I'd like to get this for PC obviously but I don't know that I will have a good enough computer to play it. Even if I bought a desktop before it comes out, I really don't have a place to put it. GF 3.0 takes up a lot of HDD (apt space).

My poor 4 year old laptop still has to run low-end configs for CSS (DX LEVEL 8.1 REPRESENT!). It gets over 100 fps for the first 10 minutes or until the server gets over 15 people and then it really starts to overheat. Laptop fan isn't worth a *edited* but it keeps it off the table which does seem to help.

Maybe I should just be like DICEY and get a gaming laptop?

GF 3.0 is one of the leading causes of HDD clutter.

You can pick up a decent gaming laptop for under $1000. If desktops aren't an option that's probably the better route to go.

I'll have to look into that..

What do you think the requirements will be for the new game?

Greater than Left 4 Dead 2?

About the same as L4D2? <---- My guess.

About the same as TF2?

My guess is it needs about the same videocard power as TF2 and CPU power as L4D2.

For a laptop, a midrange Core i5 would be sufficient with 6-8GB of RAM and either the ATI 64** or 67** series graphics card. Also, 7200rpm hard drive should be a no brainer extra.

Ugh.. I'm still trying to save money for a big tv.

What to DOOOOO?

I wonder when the game will come out in 2012.

Also, I google "SharePoint 2010" so much that every time I try to type 2012 I type 2010 instead.

I have a wireless kb for ps3 already.. I guess I'll need to get a mouse. Maybe there will be an official option by the time the game comes out.

Here is some more info I've found. The writer got some new info from someone at valve.

Here's some new info I gleaned from the article:

  • One thing it talks about that I haven't seen anywhere else is an ELO (Chess style) skill ranking system that matches up people of similar skill level.
  • They made some changes to de_dust to make more people play it.
  • If I read correctly, the character skins set depends on the map to make it easier to distinguish between friend or foe.. I don't think I've ever had this problem in css though.
  • Casual mode: player has unlimited monies to buy whatever you want (16k Serverrrrrs made easy)
