Ephraim Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Prediction: The club will begin hosting tournaments for the game as soon as it is released and continue to do so until three years after it stops being popular. Quote
Phonetically Phamous (dice Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Prediction: The club will begin hosting tournaments for the game as soon as it is released and continue to do so until three years after THE WORLD ENDS BECAUSE it WILL NEVER stop being popular. FIXED Quote
MasterP Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 Prediction: The club will not host tournaments for the game as the PC VP won't care. FIXED Quote
MasterP Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 Btw, if we were to regain our Valve sponsorship we'd get 50 free copies of this for the LAN. Something to keep in mind Quote
Lemm Posted August 25, 2011 Author Report Posted August 25, 2011 Either way, this is very exciting. Hopefully valve will do it right, whatever they do. Quote
Lemm Posted August 26, 2011 Author Report Posted August 26, 2011 NEW TRAILER! http://store.steampowered.com/app/1800/ Cross-platform compatibility! Next-gen consoles and MAC. (Which means ps4 and mac because Microsoft won't allow Steam integration). New weapons, New maps.. still looks a lot like source though. Quote
MasterP Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 It's probably the proof of concept for a new engine upgrade. Aside from raw graphics, I'm curious as to what improvements have been made under the hood. Quote
Lemm Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 According to this article PS3 Gamers will be able to play with Keyboard / Mouse or PS Move. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/26/counter-strike-global-offensive-to-have-cross-play-for-ps3-pc/ I'm psyched. I thought they might wait until next gen came out to release it on consoles.. it's about time they stop calling ps3 / xbox next gen consoles. Also the article states the game won't be coming to XBOX. Quote
MasterP Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Back to topic: It's been confirmed that XBOX360 will be stuck using controllers but PS3 will have Move, keyboard/mouse, and controller support and PC/Mac will have cross-platform matchmaking with PS3 users. I'm actually looking forward to that, opens the door for a highly competitive PC vs console exhibition match at LANs Also the article states the game won't be coming to XBOX. The article you linked said it would be coming to XBOX but that Steamworks wouldn't be implemented on XBL. Personally, I don't think it's even possible to implement Steamworks on XBL. PSN was pretty basic in terms of coding which made it trivial to simply overlay Steamworks on top of it as an addon. XBL has a pretty complex backend framework and I don't imagine MS would be too keen on releasing all the code for that to Steam for them to make the modifications. I don't think it's fair to bash MS over it, XBL is twice as old as PSN and those extra years do a number on the flexibility of the system. If PSN was 10 years old I imagine it'd be in the same boat. Then again, if PSN was released in tandem with XBL it would probably have forced XBL to be a free service <_> Quote

MasterP Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 I split the off topic posts into their own thread. You've been here long enough to know that nothing ever gets deleted. Quote
Ephraim Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 I've never played Counter-Strike before. Maybe this would be a good place to start. Quote
MasterP Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 The part I'm looking forward to the most is that for 48 hours there won't be any aimbots or wallhacks. Quote
Lemm Posted August 29, 2011 Author Report Posted August 29, 2011 I'd like to get this for PC obviously but I don't know that I will have a good enough computer to play it. Even if I bought a desktop before it comes out, I really don't have a place to put it. GF 3.0 takes up a lot of HDD (apt space). My poor 4 year old laptop still has to run low-end configs for CSS (DX LEVEL 8.1 REPRESENT!). It gets over 100 fps for the first 10 minutes or until the server gets over 15 people and then it really starts to overheat. Laptop fan isn't worth a *edited* but it keeps it off the table which does seem to help. Maybe I should just be like DICEY and get a gaming laptop? Quote
MasterP Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 GF 3.0 is one of the leading causes of HDD clutter. You can pick up a decent gaming laptop for under $1000. If desktops aren't an option that's probably the better route to go. Quote
Lemm Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 GF 3.0 is one of the leading causes of HDD clutter. You can pick up a decent gaming laptop for under $1000. If desktops aren't an option that's probably the better route to go. I'll have to look into that.. What do you think the requirements will be for the new game? Greater than Left 4 Dead 2? About the same as L4D2? <---- My guess. About the same as TF2? Quote
MasterP Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 My guess is it needs about the same videocard power as TF2 and CPU power as L4D2. For a laptop, a midrange Core i5 would be sufficient with 6-8GB of RAM and either the ATI 64** or 67** series graphics card. Also, 7200rpm hard drive should be a no brainer extra. Quote
Lemm Posted September 1, 2011 Author Report Posted September 1, 2011 Ugh.. I'm still trying to save money for a big tv. What to DOOOOO? I wonder when the game will come out in 2012. Also, I google "SharePoint 2010" so much that every time I try to type 2012 I type 2010 instead. Quote
Derrick LeBrocq Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 This game could be great for the club. Supports KB&Mouse on the PS3 version, and its crossplatform between PC and PS3. Would make for good lan tourneys. Quote
Lemm Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 I have a wireless kb for ps3 already.. I guess I'll need to get a mouse. Maybe there will be an official option by the time the game comes out. Quote
Lemm Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) http://www.gamepro.com/article/previews/222763/six-reasons-counter-strike-global-offensive-is-more-than-just-a-port/ Here is some more info I've found. The writer got some new info from someone at valve. Here's some new info I gleaned from the article: One thing it talks about that I haven't seen anywhere else is an ELO (Chess style) skill ranking system that matches up people of similar skill level. They made some changes to de_dust to make more people play it. If I read correctly, the character skins set depends on the map to make it easier to distinguish between friend or foe.. I don't think I've ever had this problem in css though. Casual mode: player has unlimited monies to buy whatever you want (16k Serverrrrrs made easy) Edited September 12, 2011 by Lemm Quote
Phonetically Phamous (dice Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 ok i'll buy it pending sv_skoutzknivez and awp_l337sk337_beta on that note what engine is this running on? Quote
Lemm Posted September 22, 2011 Author Report Posted September 22, 2011 http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/22/counter-strike-go-gets-arsenal-mode-with-help-from-modders/ Just found this .. Apparently Gun Game or some variation of it will be built into CS:GO under the name "Arsenal Mode" There are also some new pics on this link ^^^ Quote
