Okay, so I don't have the full brackets drawn here, but I'll update this later. in any case, here's the overall plan:

we take everyone that signed up for the tourney and then we have 1 (or 2 if necessary) mass dm freeforall server(s). The number of people will be rounded up to the next power of 2. every round only the top 2^(n-1) players will move on to the next filter round, until we are left with 16.

if there are not 16 entrants, then by random choice some players will get a bye to the second round.

we will then have random slots already assigned by your rank coming out of the last free for all round. from that point on we will be running short small map 1v1 rounds taking a time I will determine this week to be enough to shake out the clear winner. perhaps 3-5 minutes. 1v1 works pretty efficiently in that kind of time.

I will have a running bracket chart that I will keep up with. Any assistants will be greatly appreciated as I do not have 8 bodies to observe each round.

The 1v1 brackets will be split elimination, as I call it. The 1st place slot will only be single elim. all those who do not win will be seeded into an ongoing losers bracket. The theory behind this is that we will know both first and second place finishers.

Weapon set during official tourney will be only the stock weapons, and not exclusive. If the redeemer appears on a map, you have the power.

Weapon set during free play may include a round or two of Chaos UT 2 game play. If so, then if needed there will be an additional round for players to acquire the Chaos UT2 mod from my server (I assume your computers will acquire it the same way they acquire a new map)

Weapon stay will be on in the mass filter rounds. It will also be on in the 1v1 rounds. I know some will disagree, but I feel that this is to encourage players to show off their abilities and prove their worth.

Mass DM maps are not chosen yet.

1v1 DM maps are not chosen yet.

Outside the tourney there will be free play rounds hosted with gametypes of Assault, Bombing Run, Capture the Flag, and DeathMatch.

Bots will be used as fillers in the free play rounds. Bots will NOT appear in any tournament rounds.

To make the 1v1 rounds efficient, I will have to coordinate unbiased server admins to set up the servers for each round. Hosting 8 rounds at a time is stressful on any rig to date.

UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2007 WILL NOT APPEAR AT THIS LAN EVENT.

If possible please come with UT2004 pre-installed. it does take a lot of time.

As always, any actions indicative of cheating will be observed and appropriate action taken. Possibly even replacement of any cheaters with the last person they knocked out, if in tournament play. Bans will be acceptable if necessary.

Also, as council leader and chief administrator of this individual tournament, I am withdrawing from competing in this. I will perhaps be on as a spectator, or just watching over people's shoulders. If you want a piece of me, then catch me in the free play rounds.

We have 14 hours right? Why would you accordingly want to limit 1v1 games to 3-5 minutes? Powerups spawn in UT every 55 seconds, thats 3-4 posessions max, which is kinda silly. I mean, people could literally get the first 100 sheild, and accordingly win the game. 3-5 minutes is not enough time for a change of pace, which can and does happen often in longer 1v1 games. As the most seasoned and experienced UT player on this campus, I suggest you lengthen the map times for 1v1 to at least 10 minutes, if not 15(the time used in every standardized tournament I've ever played in, to include the one here last year). Again, we have 14 hours. As far as weaponstay, I can see leaving it on in the FFA, but on for 1v1 is pretty silly. Why? If you get the rocket launcher and I kill you and take it, and have taken the one that just spawned, (every 20 seconds) you don't deserve to respawn and immediately have 100 HP and a rocket launcher again, it completely removes map control from the concept of the game, which 1v1 at a competitive level is ALL about. I'm not trying to downplay your ideas, but I know I've played in more UT tournaments than anyone else around here, and I know how the best of them were run and administrated. I'd love to see the redeemer on in FFA because that makes for hilarity, but it should be off in 1v1. Antalus is the only map that has the redeemer anyway. As far as maps not being chosen, I'm happy to help with that too, here are the list of feasible maps for each mod, maps that are normally used for this sort of tournament, maps that everyone can enjoy. These maps are all battle tested and have stood up and remained popular in the competitive community for years. They are balanced and designed for competition.

I will now proceed to comment.

First of all, how the fark did you un-close the thread and who did it? I closed this thing so I could fully post everything before people got annoyed and started railing on me.

Second of all you appear quite opinionated and also appear quite experienced. We have meetings of the Gaming Club at which Council Leaders are determined. But from the sounds of it you already know this, as I have heard you used to be CL or something like that. I have had zero competition becoming the CL. Yes I am a freshman, and I may be very un-mainstream in UT, coz I don't go out hunting for tourneys. But I came up here and went to meetings and requested we utilize a UT server, and thus I am now the CL. So you are all my minions. I will make tourneys and rules and all and you will nod your head and play.

HAHA! did you actually go for that? okay, I was being sarcastic. but really if you want the CL spot, I would be glad to hand it over, or maybe 1v1 for the spot. There's no difference in the two, it's going to you either way... lol. anywho, dude, if you wanna see changes be active in the forums! coz I am taking any suggestions or requests to populate this so I can get back to playin UT with real people.

However, the upcoming tourney plans are already pretty much etched in stone. I'm not gonna rework this entire thing before then coz I'll have shatloads of homework to do this week prolly and also tonight's some football game that a few people said might be worth watching, supposedly the winner goes on to be the champion or some bull like that.

I'll review the maplist suggestions, tho. it kinda narrows the field.

And the time thing, I must correct you on that. Yes we have the room for 14 hours. yay. but we have two hours for tourney bracket signups and general setup. down to 12 hours. we also have 12 tourneys we will attempt to run. People here don't specialize. I myself am thinkin of playin 3 or 4 other tourneys. So running tourneys similtaneously is illogical. So I'm trying to make a 1-2 hour tourney. And we also have to consider the administrative time, round setup and all. If we have between 32 and 64 people register for the tourney, let's see how that registers. I'm using 3 filter rounds (below). plus then I am going to do a seeder round. that's 4. Then if we seed just 8 players, then the brackets I am using demand 5 rounds. That's 9. So we have 9 rounds. I could picture 10 min rounds if we run it smoothly enough. If i get a 2 hour slot that is.

Weapon stay: Yeah, I'm gonna be running some probably short term rounds. You may like that other suggestion for the tourneys you've been to, but hold your horses. Shorter rounds do mean few spawns of weapons. which is *edited* difficult to overthrow the early leader. As such, that is illogical. Plus, stop being lazy and cleaning the map to keep your enemy down. guard whatever it is they're in need of. It's simple second-level strategy my friend. Plus it forces players to be more versatile and use multiple weapons for that very reason, because they may not be able to get through the other guy to their weapon. And also this gives credit fairly to the best fraggers, not just to the map ho's. I may even consider ammo stay next LAN to be honest... but I will be glad to debate that before then.

redeemer, ion painter, etc. - yes, these may be very frustrating. but on these tight 1v1 maps, remember, it's not like they can just blow you away and then turn the tide of the game. They are likely to get killed too. So those weapons are more equalizers, because afterwards you both have to recover weapons and health and all.

power-ups: I'm thinking up hastening the spawn time of those too. or disabling them altogether. I think a good 20 second time is enough if the players can think to guard them, for same reason as weapon stay. further thinking to come later.

plus, on your comment that respawning with 100 health and grabbing the rocket launcher, well, one player just scored. So in the big picture one of them is advantaged. A good frag match is kinda like basketball. expect alternating scores anyway, but if someone gets two in a row, then they get the lead.

more commentary will come later as I amend the post above with updates and the official bracket plan.

I don't mean to sound like an *edited* but this is not a Keith Kelly tournament. This is Falcon's tournament and he can run it however he sees fit. We DO NOT have 12 hours for a UT tournament and this lan is not all about UT. If you want UT run differently you should come to meetings and try to get elected as the UT council leader. That's my .02.
