Kuros Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Since we've decided to go with Ventrilo, here's how to get it. We'll see if I am as good at this as Falcon. 1) www.ventrilo.com 2) click download on the left 3) Download the Windows version 2.3.0 4) Run the installer 5) Launch Vent and click the arrow beside the User Name row. 6) Click add and set your name, you may also play around with the phonetic if you like. 7) Click the arrow beside the Server row. 8) Click New and make up a name (WCU Gaming) works fine. 7) Under Hostname or IP type " 74.86.114.44" with no quotes 8) Under Port Number change it to 3787 and click ok 9) Click the arrow beside of bindings. 10) Click New and name your new key bind. 11) Click in the "Bind Key" box and press the key you want to press to talk in vent (I use mouse4 and 5 so it doesn't beep at me when I'm not in game) 12) Change transmit style to current channel and click add then ok 13) Click setup and check "Use Push-to-Talk Hotkey" I also had to uncheck use DirectInput to make mine work. Click ok 14) Select your name, the server, and your keybind from the drop down boxes and click connect. Quote
Falcon Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 and i'm working on the linux version of the how-to. and yes it does involve wine right now it's complaining about codecs... so i'm looking for info's Quote
Falcon Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 right now anything in Wine, to my knowledge, still doesn't like to do voice communication. example: counterstrike:source will detect the button, no problem, because it will let me set it in the options. however, when I go to hit that button, nothing happens. I suspect vent is much the same kind of borked. However, TeamSpeak works beautifully, so I'm sure they're working on it, whoever they is. Quote
yousillyGoose Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Yesterday I was able to get vent to work in linux through crossover (which uses wine). Wine has a tutorial on how to do it. I had to cross a bunch of problems but it is possible. If you have any questions about steam or ventrilo in linux you can always pm me or get me on irc. I am new to both topics but as I have them working on my computer I assume I can help. Quote
Falcon Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 geez i forgot all bout that... needless to say that i never figured it out. take yousillyGoose's suggestions. Quote
yousillyGoose Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?...on&iId=9832 That is a tutorial on how to do it. I still had trouble after that but my trouble was because my laptop has a built in mic but i wanted to use my headset mic (more of a linux problem). Anyways, like I said, any questions feel free to ask me. Quote
YahooEarth Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Do many of the source players here even use vent?? I got in a while ago every now and then, and there was never anyone in there... Quote
MajorMajorMajor Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 The Vent channel is so convoluted now o.O needs a good cleaning Quote
Snicklefritz Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 I dont mean to keep asking newb questions but I am one so oh well... basically this is like teamspeak... is this the way people get echo and the like? is it integrated into CSS so instead of using the mic in CSS you use this instead? does it still pop your name up in CSS like when you use the normal integrated voice comms? I read the ventrilo website but didnt really see answers to these specific questions Quote
MasterP Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 I dont mean to keep asking newb questions but I am one so oh well... basically this is like teamspeak... Kinda but dumbed down. is this the way people get echo and the like? is it integrated into CSS so instead of using the mic in CSS you use this instead? does it still pop your name up in CSS like when you use the normal integrated voice comms? It is completely seperate from CSS. To my knowledge there is no ingame component to display who is talking like Teamspeak does. Quote

MajorMajorMajor Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 major...go make some money on the corner and pay for this...please? i want to come hang out on vent until i get my laptop fixed! lol, i keep the money i make we have so many people that use vent that play all sorts of games, i dunno why everyone doesnt sit in it lol Quote
MasterP Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 We could just toss up a Teamspeak server. It's not like they're hard to install or heavy on a server. Then again, you'd all have to give up the whole "Vent is so much better and totally worth paying money for" craze you got going on. Quote
Liam Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 As of this time the Vent server is down until further notice. Quote
So-CaL A Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 I could go into the mutltitude of ventrilo servers that are unused when i get my other computer back and post one you can use but i can't say that random people might come in and i don't have admin...but it's a server nonetheless Quote
MasterP Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=vent+harassment If you don't have admin this stuff happens. Quote
So-CaL A Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 its so old that no one ever comes on. Also i have other vents with admin, of course and that video was hilarious, that you can chill in...maybe >.> Quote
MajorMajorMajor Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 so is there an update on the server? or should we just get teamspeak working? Quote
So-CaL A Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 Vent's back up lol i've checked the last 2 days and it's been up whenever i've checked Quote
