ChaosWolf Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Personally I feel the LAN was a huge success. There were lots of people, great competition and an overall wonderful atmostphere the whole time. The tourneys seemed to run smoothly without too much confusion. I was caught up in two tourneys at once on occasion, but even then it was handled in a most efficient manor. Madden was the only "problem" as no one really showed up for it, but I think that had to do with the fact this was home opener weekend. The winner of the tourney had the idea that perhaps we should do NCAA football next time instead of Madden. I think the settings made the competition more than fair as well. Those in particular, guitar hero. I really thought the settings and rules that were given made for more than an even playing field without causing boredom. Overall, great job exec's. Thanks for the good times and new friends. I am looking forward to the next one already. Peace. Quote
Brian Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Awesome thanks for the kudos dude. Quote
Oh Malley Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Yeah. The only problem I saw with this LAN was getting the fliers up late. Good dispersal of them, but if we had them up even just a week longer, we could've had a larger turnout. But hey, I know a vast majority, if not all, had a good time during the tourneys. All in good fun, and no hard feelings. Now... we need to make fliers for the gaming site and the forums. Get the community to build back up to help support the growing LANs. Quote
Nickname Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 First, I want to say thanks to everyone who helped make this lan a huge success, it was really fun! Now, a couple of gripes: first was about the networking issue we had, but that was really networking's fault. Unfortunatly though, that pretty much ruined the zombie mod tournament. Since we didn't have much time to stick it in because of the networking problems, it was riddled with bugs and very short which really made it sorta "meh" at best. The only other thing that bothered me was restarting the CS:S tournament halfway through because "it wasn't fun for the terrorists." Well whether you are on the willing or losing team it doesn't matter as long as you're in the top 10; but THEN you decide that, instead of just restarting the tourney on the same map with everyone autoassigning, you change the map as well? I mean I personally didn't think that was fair because it made me go from being 3rd on my team when you decided to change maps (11-0) to me being last on my team when you changed maps, keeping me from advancing. Now I understand there are things that can go wrong, but when it is announced that we are "live", we shouldn't decide to restart the tournament 8 rounds later because some people aren't doing well. Ok so as I was saying thanks to everyone! I can't wait for the next lan! Quote
MasterP Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 ^^^^ Many of the same gripes. The power should have been on yesterday and maintenance needs to be REAMED for losing our ticket. Lets face it, had they done their job and turned the power on when they were supposed to we would have had much less boredom right from the start because we can't do ANYTHING until they get around to turning us on. Next is networking. I hate to complain about them but we need to get them there at 11am next time and have all the kinks worked out before the entire PC group is set up and bored to tears. There is no reason why we shouldn't be gaming 2 hours after sign-ins start. I think the lan go off to a crappy start but got much better once we started the tournies up. I have to agree with Nickname though because I was also 11-0 on the first CSS run, pick a map and stay with it. Also, restarting because people aren't in is just BS, I came in halfway through the first map of DOD:S and won the thing so it doesn't hurt to miss a few rounds. Quote
Cacophony Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 I too think it would be great it we could sort out the power and connection things earlier for the next LAN. While I was kind of expecting to be sitting around (After all, it did happen last time too) it still sucks to be bored to tears for a good solid couple of hours. Otherwise, I had a lot of fun with what I participated in and am really looking forward to the next LAN. Quote
Bitey Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 For the record the map was restart in CSS like it was, not because of a few people but the whole T team, it was stated that this is not fun for the T team, the first objective is the lan is to make sure EVERYONE has fun, not just you, and you, so instead of being selfish, be happy that you had fun in general. I wanted to win the CSS tourney but hey it didn't go my way either, oh well, thats that. Quote

I wanted to win the CSS tourney but hey it didn't go my way either, oh well, thats that. And that would have been fine with me had the next map not been the exact same way. AFTER the reset and auto-assign the T's were still getting raped just as badly. Quote
Kuros Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 It wasn't done because it wasn't fun. It was done because we were running late and had agreed to pass everyone to the next round. Quote
Adam Faulkner Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 So that we dont have any confusion about how the gaming club gets the tasks like the power and the networking. I would say its fair for you guys to talk about the power not being hooked up in time. To my knowledge we pay for that service. BUT the networking issues was not something that you guys should complain about. (I didnt see any huge problems that werent delt with in a timely fashion) and the delivery of the device was a timeframe we agreed to because the service that the IT provides is free and at their will. I think you guys should rethink your thoughts about how you speak of them and respect that they too have lives and are going out of their way to help us make this stuff happen. If I were you i would be sending them a thank you email personally, not putting them at fault for a minor alteration of your schedule. If you didnt know they prolly have already read this thread. If you really think it was that huge of a problem. You could easily replace all those switches in there for about 60,000$ dollars. Im sure we have that laying around. (before someone says thats too much) remember your not incontrol of the network in the first place. they are. We are guests in their house. I never said I agree with everything that ITS does and some standing issues with them about this club, but I know that the guys that come out to help with the lan do this on their time, not 8-5. Quote
Kuros Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 The networking guys had already told me they were going to be later and that it was okay. I know anyone who came to me at the event asking about networking was told that networking came exactly when they said they were going to. Adam's right, we should be extremely thankful that those guys come to help us out. As for the power, it was supposed to be installed and working on Friday. Apparently they "lost our work order." So if you want to yell at anyone for setup problems, yell at maintenance. Quote
Liam Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 I have to agree 100%. I got there at around 1:00 and ITS was already there working on the switch issues. I know on a few network cables they even checked them for me when people weren't getting a link and told me which end had a problem so it could be re-made. Tack that onto the fact that they were willing and did give out a *ton* of static IP addresses for the folks on Windows Vista so that they could get online and I'd have to say that ITS went far above and beyond their call of duty in helping get this LAN going in the right direction. The power issue was a problem, but it seemed to be fixed by 1:30 or so, and then people started playing and having fun. Being as the LAN didn't officially start until 2:00 then I'd say that things went more or less on schedule. So for whatever its worth: ITS, thank you for everything you did. It was greatly appreciated. Quote
lootool Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 I am appreciative of everything that went down. I had tons of fun. No need to be stressed out about fun things. Everyone already has enough stuff to worry about. Doesn't everyone come to play and have fun? Loot. Quote
MasterP Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Next is networking. I hate to complain about them... ...and I do hate to complain about them because most of them do a hell of a job. The guys that brought the switches and troubleshooted the TCP/IP did a great job considering the problem wasn't anything they could easily fix from there. All I said was maybe next year we can try to get them to come in earlier. It wouldn't have really mattered though because we didn't have power for the switches anyway. Quote
Kuros Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Like I said before, I knew ahead of time they would be later, so for me it wasn't an issue. The power, however, was supposed to be done way ahead of time. Quote
